The most inexpensive way between Ko Lanta and Phuket is the public passenger ferry that runs November to May. Public minibus service is also available between Phuket and Ko Lanta if you miss the passenger ferry or its low season.

If you're arriving at Phuket Airport after 4 pm we suggest that you spend the night in Phuket before coming to Ko Lanta as you'll miss the last passenger ferry and it doesn't leave adequate time to get to Koh Lanta based on speedboat and car ferry schedules.

Prices are all-inclusive in Thai Baht based on six passengers, maximum 9 passengers per minivan permitted. Travel time is around 4 hours including two car ferry crossings. All flights can be met for delivery to and from the resort the same day. Note: Airport Shuttle must be pre-booked.

In Phuket catch the passenger ferry to Ko Lanta at Rassada Pier (closest to Phuket Town). This is about 15 km from the airport so leave an hour to travel between the airport and the pier. Passenger ferry runs October to May with daily departures to Phuket at 1 pm. The trip takes about 3 hours, stops at Phi Phi Island and costs up to 600 Baht. The boat leaving Ban Saladan Pier on Ko Lanta to Phuket runs once a day at 8 am. All resorts booked through Best of Koh Lanta provide pick up and drop of service to the pier if given reasonable notice.

Most travel agents in Phuket can book a public minivan trip to Ko Lanta for tourists for not more than 600 Baht. Services run from mid morning to mid afternoon and take 4-5 hours total. You'll likely change buses in Krabi Town for the last leg of the trip. The same can be done in Koh Lanta for trips back to Phuket.

Rental cars are available at the airport for the very pleasant 4-hour drive to Ko Lanta. Roads between the two cities, like most other places in Thailand, are well maintained and safe. First, head towards the Sarasin Bridge on Highway 402, on your way off the island. Make sure you pay attention to the signs that clearly indicate how to get to Krabi. Stay on the 402 until Krabi.

Once you get to Krabi look for Highway #4 (Phetkasem Road) heading north down the Andaman Sea coastline towards Trang and Hat Yai. Continue on this highway past the Krabi Airport and through two small towns for about 50 kilometers. Once you've gone through the town of Klong Thom start paying attention to English language roads signs about turning right to Ko Lanta at Highway 4206 junction. This turn-off is about 7 kilometers from Klong Thom.

Follow this road for 30 kilometers through small towns towards the coast until you come to the first of two ferries. Once you've crossed the first ferry to Lanta Noi, follow the sign to the second ferry. Cross this ferry and your now in Koh Lanta. Car ferry price is not more than 60 Baht for a vehicle and 15 Baht per person. It runs daily from 7 am to 10 pm.
