The most inexpensive way between Ko Lanta and Krabi is the public passenger ferry that runs November to May. Public minibus service is also available between Krabi and Ko Lanta if you miss the passenger ferry or its low season.

Remember if you're arriving after noon at Krabi Airport, you'll be unable to make the last public ferry to Ko Lanta. Your options are then, pre-booking a private shuttle or staying overnight in Krabi town and catching the ferry the next morning. Cars are also for rent at the airport.

Krabi's new passenger ferry pier is on Tharua Road (replaces the old Chao Fah pier) is about 3 km out of town so leave an hour to travel between the airport and the pier. The tentative departure schedule for October to May is twice daily departing Krabi at 8 am and 1 pm. The trip takes about 1.5 hours and costs up to 300 Baht. The boat leaving Ban Saladan Pier on Ko Lanta leaves for Krabi twice daily at 10:30 am and 1 pm. All resorts booked through Best of Koh Lanta provide pick up and drop of service to the pier if given reasonable notice.

Most travel agents in Krabi Town can book a public minivan trip to Ko Lanta for tourists for not more than 300 Baht. Services run from mid morning to mid afternoon and take 2-3 hours total. The same can be done in Koh Lanta for trips back to Krabi.

Rental cars are available at the airport for the very pleasant 2-hour drive to Ko Lanta. Roads between the two cities, like most other places in Thailand, are well maintained and safe. Once you get to Krabi look for Highway #4 (Phetkasem Road) heading north down the Andaman Sea coastline towards Trang and Hat Yai. Continue on this highway past the Krabi Airport and through two small towns for about 50 kilometers. Once you've gone through the town of Klong Thom start paying attention to English language roads signs about turning right to Ko Lanta at Highway 4206 junction. This turn-off is about 7 kilometers from Klong Thom.

Follow this road for 30 kilometers through small towns towards the coast until you come to the first of two ferries. Once you've crossed the first ferry to Lanta Noi, follow the sign to the second ferry. Cross this ferry and your now in Koh Lanta. Car ferry price is not more than 60 Baht for a vehicle and 15 Baht per person. It runs daily from 7 am to 10 pm.
