Getting Here - Bangkok to/from Trang
There are arriving and departing flights between Bangkok and almost everywhere in the world with daily connecting flights to Trang airport. Travelers coming up from Malaysia will use Trang as their transit point onto Koh Lanta as well.
Krabi is the most convenient airport to arrive at if continuing onto Ko Lanta but Trang is a good second option when flights aren't available to Krabi.
Trang is also the gateway onto Ko Lanta when traveling by the government train service to/from Bangkok. Many travelers prefer to see the country using this very safe, clean and economical mode of transportation.
If you traveling by government bus or by private vehicle you'd likely use Krabi as the transfer point onto Ko Lanta as it's closer and more convenient.

By Air - Bangkok to/from Trang
Most people find there way onto Ko Lanta by flying from Bangkok into the Krabi Airport -- the closest and most convenient transfer point onto the island. However, as a second option when these flights are full, Trang has a regional airport with easy access onto Ko Lanta.
Thai Airways offers one direct daily flights both ways with six additional flights scheduled throughout the week. PB Air offers one flight daily both ways on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Nok Air has just added some flights recently as well.
Flights during tourist season (Nov-May) should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. Prices are approximately 3,000 Baht one-way and 6,000 Baht return depending on the season and special promotions.

The Thai Airways afternoon flight (TG 257) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Bangkok to Trang arrives too late in the day for passengers to catch the final public minibus to Ko Lanta. The PB Airliners afternoon flight 9Q 576 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from Bangkok to Trang arrives too late in the day for passengers to catch the final public minibus to Ko Lanta. By Train - Bangkok to/from Trang
Trang is the arrival and departure town for train trips between Bangkok and Ko Lanta. There are two daily government trains going both ways and take about 15 hours traveling time. These trains are safe and clean with food service and offer 1st, 2nd and 3rd class fares. All are overnight trips so sight-seeing is available during limited daylight hours.
First class fares (1300 Baht) are for semi-private, air-con rooms (private if you buy two tickets) with fold out sleepers. Second class (700 Baht) has comfortable fold-out beds in air-con cars and third class (200 Baht) is the same in fan-cooled cars. Book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment during tourist season.
The Bangkok train station used for southern routes is Hualamphong station located in a central area of Bangkok near most of the popular accommodation districts.
To get to Hualamphong Station from the Bangkok Airport (especially during rush hour traffic) leave your self two hours traveling time. Regulated taxis are available from the taxi stand on the international arrival area. Stand in line and wait your turn as this will assure you a fair price and get you to the right destination. Air-con Bus #510 also goes from the airport to the Southern Train Terminal and runs between 04:00 and 21:00.
To get to this station from the city leave ample time during rush hour traffic. One quick option to get to Hualamphong from anywhere on the BTS skytrain system is to find your way to National Stadium Station and then jump in a taxi or on a motorbike for the remaining 5 km trip.
The Trang Train Terminal is located in the down town area of the city where transfers onto Ko Lanta are easily made for public minibus transfers at KK Travel across the main street. There's a good selection of coffee shops and shopping centers in the area to pass time while waiting for trains and bus rides.
