Ko Lanta Guide Second Beach Area
Phra Ae Beach (Long Beach)
Considered by many to be one of the best beaches in all of Thailand, Long Beach is virtually uninhabited even during peak season. Its 3 km length always assures a private stretch of white sand for everyone.
The tide comes in gradually on Long Beach and the waves are small, making it a perfect for "kids" of all ages. Water temperature remains at 28-30 degrees C all year on a beach that invites long lazy walks and sunset jogs.
Long Beach is dotted with about twenty resorts mostly located directly on the water. A few years back all resorts were small, Thai-family run establishments with simple bamboo structures. Today those inexpensive bungalows are still available but are slowly being replaced with 3-5 star resorts.
For the time being Long Beach is still laid back and attracts mostly "travelers" and those not interested in crowded tourist beaches. Like all of Lanta's beaches, Long Beach faces south, so the sunsets are legendary and offer a stunning backdrop for nightly cocktails and fresh seafood BBQ.
Local Services
There are limited services on the beach and in the resorts but most people go to the village or to Ban Saladan for more selection as both are close.
Restaurants + Hangouts
Long beach area has an assortment of funky eateries, cafes, pubs and clubs on the 3 km stretch of sand. At the beginning, on the north end of Long Beach, there are a few simple, Thai resorts with quaint beachside bars and restaurants.
Nestled in between is Lanta Sands Resort and Spa famous for their fresh pastries and pies.
Heading south down Long Beach you'll find the island's best, thin-crust pizza at Mr. V's. Next door don't miss the hip and friendly Funky Fish Bar and Lanta's original boom-boom disco Ozone Bar.
Mid beach you'll consistently find great Thai and western meals at Long Beach Resort and Casuarina Resort featuring nightly seafood BBQs. For special occasions the exclusive kitchen in Lanyana Resort and Spa is the island's most talked about creative eateries.
At the south end of Long Beach, Good Days Resort offers romantic poolside dining. Next door is The Sanctuary which has sublime breakfasts and Indian food. Nearby is Reggae Bar where their ongoing "festivals" offer continuous nights of live music and partying… actually every night is a festival at Reggae. Tucked around the corner is the French-inspired cooking of Relax Bay Resort.
